As our programs developed, we began to see a clear link between poverty and drug abuse. Providing subsidized education and vocational training to out-of-school youth has become an important component of our primary prevention strategy and we have been successful in reducing the likelihood of involvement in high risk behaviour and drug using environments. The final step in our expansion has been to promote sustainable, income generating development programs in poor and disaster stricken areas of Indonesia that contribute to the improved health and livelihood of those communities.
Vision, Mission, & Values
Our Vision:
Out of our deep concern and love, we want to give the children of our nation the hope and opportunity for better lives and sustainable future. Our Missions:
- To save the lives and minds of Indonesian youth through drug abuse prevention programs that lead to awareness, education, and community development.
- To replicate this effort by creating and providing accessible research-based programs.
- To inititiate sustainable development programs that promote human capital, tri-sector collaboration, and social entrepreneurship.
Our Values:
- We believe that every child is a unique and precious opportunity.
- We believe that every child has the right to feel secure and be free from poverty.
- We believe that every child has the right to information and education: information that liberates them to make smart choices; education that enables them to be in control in their lives.
- We believe in providing and maintaining the highest virtues of conduct in developing and delivering youth programs in Indonesia and beyond.

Friends of YCAB
Funding
PT. YADA Indonesia
YCAB is uniquely funded through our friends at PT. YADA Indonesia, PT. Pelangi Jaya, Beauty Inc. and through various charitable events.
We are constantly looking for new partners and we are always open to sustainable funding ideas from any Corporate Social Responsibilty (CSR) programs.
PT. YADA (Youth Against Drug Abuse) Indonesia
PT. YADA (Youth Against Drug Abuse) Indonesia was established in 2000 with the objective of creating profits that could then be channelled to YCAB for its anti-drug campaigns throughout the country.
YADA Indonesia operates in this area:
PT. Pelangi Jaya
PT. PELANGI JAYA was established in 2004 with the intention of providing non-academic courses for children and short education and training programs to parents and teachers. There are various courses and programs on offer at Pelangi, and profits go to support YCAB’s anti-drug campaigns.
Recently PELANGI has been collaborating with the Quantum Learning Network (QLN) in running SuperCamp. This camp for school children offers an innovative way to encourage positive values and academic achievement, providing a natural protective factor for them against possible delinquent behaviour. They are taught basic life skills through the ‘8 keys of excellence’, communication and relationship skills, creative thinking and problem solving and outdoor pursuits. The camp teaches academic subjects with a fun and interactive approach. Subjects include: quantum strategies, reading, writing, math mastery, memorisation skills and mind mapping.
PELANGI understands that early childhood education is very important. Children learn from and gain knowledge from educators (teachers and parents), caregivers, and their surroundings. For that reason, PELANGI provides short courses, workshops and in-house training related to the parenting process such as commonsense parenting, understanding your kids, positive behaviour management and others.
In collaborating with Association of Early Childhood Educators Singapore (AECES), PELANGI provides workshops, in-house training, and other services for early childhood teachers. With the Quantum Learning Method for Teachers, PELANGI promotes advanced but straightforward methods of teachings and contributes to the improved quality of Indonesian educators.

International Labour Organisation (ILO)
International Labour Organisation (ILO) YCAB and the ILO share a commitment to ending the exploitation of children in Indonesia. It is well known that Indonesian children who fall outside the school system are at a higher risk of becoming involved in drug trafficking. For this reason the ILO funded a project to focus on high-risk children. This involved assessing a child’s intelligence type (e.g. word smart, body smart, people smart etc.) and then assigning them to relevant workshops (short story workshop, basketball without borders, and public speaking). 7 workshops were carried out, in addition to which a number of group discussions, a parents gathering, and life-skills Training of Teachers for teachers, and beneficiaries were also held.
UNICEF
The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and YCAB have worked together at various stages of our journey. In 2004, we worked with UNICEF to implement a project in 5 cities (Jakarta, Bandung, Surabaya, Makasar and Denpasar) to increase the awareness of drug abuse and HIV/AIDS among school children. After the completion of this project several follow-ups were also conducted.
The Colombo Plan Secretariat: Drug Advisory Programme (DAP)
The Colombo Plan Secretariat: Drug Advisory Program (DAP) and YCAB have long enjoyed a close partnership. In its first 5 years of operation, YCAB collaborated with the international agency on numerous occasions. In August 2002, YCAB was given the opportunity to organise the 1st Asian Youth Congress, held in Bali. The event was a great success and continues to be an annual event, and has opened up many other collaborative opportunities with DAP. This has included workplace drug prevention workshops, sponsoring dance competitions and YCAB has contributed to an ATS (amphetamine type stimulants) manual published by DAP. Delegates form YCAB have also participated in several international conferences and workshops that were sponsored by DAP.
Monaco Asia-Society (MAS)
Monaco Asia-Society (MAS) is a non-profit organization that defines its ultimate mission as ‘turning Monaco and Asia into neighbours’. On December 3rd, 2006, H.S.H Prince Albert II of Monaco (the honorary chairman of MAS) paid a visit to Sirombu to inaugurate 239 homes and one school that had been built for victims of the Tsunami.
United Nations Information Centre (UNIC)
United Nations Information Centre (UNIC) joined hands with YCAB to present the YCAB-UNIC Awards, an annual award that highlights the vital role of the media to the anti-drug movement in Indonesia. It also honours members of the public who have made a particular contribution. The Award is presented in 3 categories: Feature, Photo, and Caricature and carries the largest prize money of any media award in Indonesia. Hopefully, in this way, we can reward, recognise and encourage the media and greater society to become more involved in the battle against our country’s drugs problem.
The Vienna NGO Committee on Narcotic Drugs (VNGOC).
The Vienna NGO Committee on Narcotic Drugs (VNGOC). YCAB is proud to have been selected as South East Asia coordinating organization for a project sponsored by VNGOC called Beyond 2008. Working with co-coordinators, the International Federation of NGOs (IFNGO) and the Asian Harm Reduction Network (AHRN) the project aims to answer 2 vital questions: what are the NGOs’ achievements in the field of drug control and what are the regional best practices related to collaboration among NGOs, governments and UN agencies? The results will be presented the UN Special Assembly on Narcotics and will serve as a guide for future deliberations on drug policy matters. The process will ensure than an NGO's voice will be heard and that it will have a direct impact on future UN policy after 2008.
Wellspring International
Wellspring International was established in February 2004 by Ravi Zacharias International Ministries (RZIM). The vision of Wellspring is to identify and fund individuals in need as well as existing organizations that are helping those at risk in their communities, specifically women and children. After a thorough exploratory process, they equip existing local rescue and rehabilitation efforts with financial resources to allow them to continue and further the work they are doing. Wellspring has operations in many parts of the world including Thailand, Cambodia, the Middle East and Africa. Wellspring continues to widen its scope of work in Indonesia through its partnership with YCAB. Wellspring has partnered with YCAB on numerous occasions and projects, from supplying food aid to tsunami and earthquakes victims to supporting women’s independence and development programs both in Jakarta slums and Banda Aceh.
Partner
Corporate Partners
The private sector is a powerful resource that YCAB can draw upon to make our programs all the more effective. YCAB is a firm believer in Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) as a way for the private sector to show its strong concern and responsibility for the wellbeing and development of society. Through their continuing support, we have been able to raise funds and sponsorship for many of our programs.

Government
YCAB looks to the government for guidance in policy-making and for its support of our programs. In return, the government rewards us with its confidence in our vision and direction: as a result YCAB is often appointed to serve on ad hoc task forces and to speak at public hearings in the Indonesian House of Representative. In this way we are able to represent the civil society in giving advice, opinion and exercising our professional consultancy to influence the policy-making process.
Throughout its life, YCAB has worked alongside various government agencies securing awards and endorsements in the process.

Civil Society
We remain constantly aware that there are many other socially-oriented organizations operating throughout the world and through networking, information exchange, sharing of best practices, and cooperation on ad-hoc projects YCAB hopes to make a larger impact on society.

Educational Institution
Atma Jaya University
YCAB has worked with AJU to train some of the students of its Department of Psychology in counselling techniques that support YCAB’s Mobile Counselling Program. Under the program, teams of counsellors are on hand at YCAB’s campaigns and events to provide immediate fact-to-face counselling to students who wish to talk about the issues raised during the activities. This is a great opportunity for YCAB to get dedicated, highly trained and motivated volunteers, and gives students the chance to get first hand practical experience of working in the field. In total 130 students participated in the training and outreach programs. YCAB remains grateful for the assistance provided by Atma Jaya, and we hope to work together on similar programs in the future.
Bina Nusantara University
Currently YCAB works with this university, known as Binus, to train school drop-out studying at RBCAB (Rumah Belajar Cinta Anak Bangsa) under the Information Technology course. Since Binus is a well known and respected institution in Indonesia, the course is an excellent opportunity for these students to secure a prestigious recognised qualifications that they would not otherwise be able to afford. Binus provides course materials and training to the RBCAB students. We are grateful to our friends at Binus for offering disadvantaged youth the chance to receive a qualification respected by employers, and the chance for a better future.
Queensland University of Technology (Australia)
YCAB has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with QUT (Australia) that will enable the two organisations to work together in the area of research. Identified in the MoU are plans to cooperate in conducting research in the area of drug abuse and drug abuse prevention and the dissemination of the research findings. Furthermore, the MoU opens the door to information and materials exchange as well as other cooperative activities of mutual benefit. YCAB is pleased to have this understanding with such a prestigious institution and is looking forward to working together closely with QUT (Australia).
